Starting the Site

I have gone back and forth for a long time about creating a blog. I always enjoy writing, but finding the right site to use has been difficult. I usually don't have a laptop with me, and I take most of my photos on my phone. I'm trying this site out and, while I don't love the URL to get here, it's a start and seems to have good editing abilities to be able to post directly from my phone. Maybe this will my motivation to kick this off?
What this site is meant to be
Travel has always been my passion. I love the idea of walking into a new place, a new culture, a different way of life. It's nerve racking and scary, but always pays out in the end. But even if there isn't foreign travel involved, there are local spots that can have so much to offer.
But travel generally means something else: a hefty price tag.
I don't have deep enough pockets for all that. So, this site is to blog about how to travel on a budget and get the most out of your trip, whether it be an afternoon hike, a day trip, a road trip, or going to a new country!
What's with the name
Road trips are some of my favorite types of trips. Creating the playlist to keep you entertained, the snacks, and the roadside attractions that are never to be missed (I will tell you about some of those in future posts). But what always happens, no matter what time of year?
SPLAT!
Thus Guts on My Windshield is born. The more you travel, the more you have!
What's going to be posted
I will try my best to include multiple photos a d details of each location I go to. This will include accessibility, costs of prakimg/admittance, hours of operation, and if they are pet friendly. On the same token, I will also let you know if the place is worth the stop.
Since I am just starting the website, there will be some posts of current trips, but also some posts about my previous trips abroad and across the US.
Most of my current posts will be from my home base which is currently Fort Myers, Florida, so you will see a lot of SW Florida locations to start with. Of course as it continues and grows, more places will be added.
Input from you
I encourage everyone to reach out to me with any suggestions of places or even tips on how to make the site better. Shoot me an email, or leave a comment! I welcome any constructive feedback!
I'm excited and hope to see this blog continue to grow. I will be posting new things this week, and my goal is to post at least once a week. While on a trip, I will generally post every day or so to keep you guys posted live from the trip. But I will let you know when I go so you can watch out for it. And if I can figure out how, I will put a countdown or at least an "Upcoming Trip" section over to the right here on the page.
Bear with me these first few weeks as I work out the format and the kinks, but welcome to my page!
Keep on trekking!
Eric Olson
