ABOUT ME

Hey Guys!
My name is Eric Olson and I am based out of Fort Myers, Florida here in the United States. My wife and I moved down this way last year from Atlanta, Georgia and couldn't be happier with our move.
Both of us love to travel, but like many, are held back due to the cost of everything. However, this challenge can not hold us back! We search all over for cheap and free things to do. And sometimes, the cheesy looking advertisement for a whole in the wall location ends up being our favorite stop.
We have done a number of road trips together as well as some trips abroad. Last year, we went to Brazil for 2 months, so parts of that trip will be highlighted on here from time to time. We have also done the drives through the Smokey Mountains, An east coast road trip up to New York, and a 3 day weekend trip to St. Louis and back. There have also been some day trips in Tennessee and Alabama, and of course around town in Georgia.
One thing that has always aggravated me is that, when looking up a place, or a trail, or whatever it is we are going to, is that it is so hard to find the practical advice you generally need. You can easily find the directions, and cost, but what about the "Is it really worth me going 20 minutes out of my way to get there?" "Do they accept credit cards?" "Where are the pictures that actually show me what I am going to see?" And of course others as well.
Thus, this blog. I will try to highlight different areas every week. To start off with, it will primarily cover local places here in Fort Myers (There is so much around here, its crazy!), but will gradually add in other places as we have a chance to get out and about. Pesky funds. I will also do some flashback posts highlighting points of interest from our previous trips. This isn't meant to be just one of those boring information filled blogs. It is meant to have some entertainment factor to it as well, so I will of course be adding in our misadventures. After all, those are usually what make the trip most memorable.
Which is actually another point: Remember that a trip should lend itself whenever possible to deviations. Too structured, and its not fun. But add in a kooky roadside attraction, a state park, an off-the-wall museum - NOW you got yourself a road trip. One of my favorite quotes is "The art of travel is to deviate from one's plans" and that is what my wife and I try to live by when we hop in the car for our next adventure.
So check back frequently! I will be posting at least once a week (maybe more if I feel particularly write-y that week). If I am on a trip, I will post every day or so as internet connection allows me to so you can keep us with our adventure. I will post upcoming trips or local explorations over to the right on the blog page so you can keep up with where I am.
Leave suggestions if there are places you like to find out more information about it. I will add them to our list and we will do our best to check as many out as possible.
Thanks for checking out the site!
Keep on trekking!
Eric Olson
